Karla, one of our Residential Citizens, loves to clean.

Half the times I have visited her home and seen her, she is reaching for a broom and dustpan. She is constantly making sure her room is clean and ready to go.

Jesus said He would be doing something similar in His Father’s house. He explains in John 14:2, “My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?”

Right now, Jesus is preparing a place for all those who believe in Him. He is getting a room in the Father’s house ready for you and me. To some, that may sound beneath the dignity and importance of King Jesus. But it probably sounds just right to Karla.

It also sounds just right if you read the Bible and see how critical hospitality is in God’s view. The culmination of that value is Jesus’ preparations for us in God’s house. Death for the Christian, then, is not a terrifying unknown. It is entering the blessed house of the Father with room specifically prepared for you by the Great Host.
